Shirasaya

Shirasaya in Japanese means "white scabbard". Shirasaya was used as a sort of storage for blades when not in use. The handle and scabbard of shirasaya were made of plain honoki wood that was beautifully fitted and finished. Many times there were inscriptions on the scabbard about the name of the sword maker and other information about the blade.
