Pommel

A Pommel is the knob on the end of a sword, dagger, knife or on the butt of a pistol. The name "pommel" is derived from apple as many pommels resembled an apple. In case of swords and daggers the pommel also served as a counterweight to the weight of the blade. A pommel that was too small or too large could make a sword out of balance and thus, difficult to handle.
